The Gallery Boutique Rooms

The Gallery Boutique Rooms is an elegant guest house in the very heart of Trieste, on Galleria Arrigo Protti, a short walk from Piazza Unità d'Italia — the largest sea-facing square in Europe. Its trump card is the location, rated an excellent 9.7 by guests: the waterfront, historic cafés, the Grand Canal and the San Giusto hill are all within an easy stroll, while the central train station is about a kilometre away.

It is an ideal choice for couples and small groups visiting Trieste who want to get around on foot in a flat, largely pedestrian centre. The rooms — all doubles — pair a refined style with modern comforts: air conditioning, flat-screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and soundproofed walls. Several have a balcony overlooking the city or the internal courtyard.

Guests enjoy private check-in and check-out, a lift, family rooms and a tour desk; the reception staff speak Italian, English and Spanish. The property offers neither breakfast nor parking, and it is worth carrying cash for any extras paid on site. A compact, well-placed address for travellers who put location and comfort first.

Location and what to see

Getting there

The Gallery Boutique Rooms sits at Galleria Arrigo Protti 3, in the old town of Trieste, between Piazza Unità d'Italia and the San Giusto hill. Trieste–Ronchi dei Legionari airport is about 33 km away: from the terminal, bus line E51 reaches Trieste Central station in around 55–60 minutes, while those who prefer the train can use the airport's dedicated railway station, connected to the centre in roughly thirty minutes; a taxi or private transfer usually takes 30–40 minutes depending on traffic. From the central station, about a kilometre away, it is a ten-minute walk along the waterfront, or a short hop on a city bus. The property has no parking and sits in a limited-traffic zone: the centre is flat and largely pedestrian, easy to explore on foot.

What to see

You are steps from almost everything worth seeing. Piazza Unità d'Italia, the largest sea-facing square in Europe, is a couple of minutes away on foot, as is Molo Audace, a classic spot for a stroll and sunset over the gulf. The Grand Canal and the Borgo Teresiano district, with the Serbian-Orthodox church of San Spiridione, are close by, while uphill you reach the Castle and Cathedral of San Giusto, with the Roman Theatre at their foot. Don't miss the historic cafés such as San Marco and Tommaseo. Miramare Castle, on a promontory about 8 km away, is reachable by bus or train and makes for a lovely half-day. In summer locals swim along the Barcola waterfront, and Miramare's seaside park is free to wander for an easy, scenic walk. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for exploring on foot; in winter the bora wind can blow hard, so pack a windproof layer.
